Our next instalment of Best of Joburg restaurants guide was Flames restaurant – located at the Four Seasons Hotel (The Westcliff) on 67 Jan Smuts Ave. The restaurant displays elegance and sophistication, supplemented by a view of Johannesburg as background. The view is something special and a perfect spot for romantic afternoon lunch, dinner or champagne on the deck. The expansive lush garden and world-class atmosphere are the restaurant’s major selling points.
On our arrival, we were welcomed by the friendly caddy who drove us up the restaurant in a golf cart while providing a quick overview of the hotel. The staff – hosts and waiters – also ushered us with the superlative five-star service throughout the night.
For starters, we had invigorating flavours and earthy zing of grilled octopus, seaweed taco, compressed watermelon, kimchee, chia seeds, red onion, coriander and avocado mayo; as well as seared Ahi tuna with avocado, quail egg, potato and black garlic aioli, and Kenyan bean salad.
For the mouth-watering mains, we had Tomahawk ribeye prepared with Flames’ signature herb butter and seasoning and served with hand-cut fries and mushroom sauce; as well as Karoo lamb chops served with pepper sauce and mash.
For desserts, the restaurant offers a wide variety of selections including chocolate fondant, crème brûlée with berries, a modern tiramisu, carrot cake, homemade sorbets and ice cream; as well as cheese board.
To access all restaurant and bar areas, reservations are mandatory. Unfortunately no walk ins as the restaurant endeavours to control comfortable and safe physically distant seating.
