Looking forward to your holiday in Cape Town this December? If you’re keen for a quiet break from the traffic that takes up so much of your time during your usual daily commute, consider Sea Point for your stay. It offers a huge amount in a relatively small area so you can pretty much walk wherever you want to go.
The latest strip of this Atlantic suburb that’s drawing the crowds is the Regent Road section of the Main Road. At just under 2km, it takes just 15 to 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other of this section of Sea Point. But, you’ll probably spend a lot longer because there are so many things to experience and see along the way.
And, with ubiquitous Ubers in the area, it’s an easy ride to go a bit further – to Hout Bay for fish ‘n chips, or to Llandudno for an afternoon of surfing, or to the Waterfront for a stroll through this exciting area.
Here are some of the top spots in the area:
Stay
Family groups will love the new upmarket Latitude Aparthotel that opened its doors this month. The 32 spacious apartments located in one of Sea Point’s hottest new buildings are fully kitted out for family stays, with big kitchens and room for up to six people. The apartments elegantly combine the comforts and privacy of a fully-fitted home with all the convenience and possibilities of a luxury hotel.
Eat
If you are staying at Latitude, you can easily eat-in. Guests will savour the delightful breakfasts and lunches available at the Latitude Cafe on the 9th floor of the building. A top-of-the-range Spar supermarket across the road is the place to get the best deli foods, fresh fish, healthy foods, and bakery delights, and both Checkers and Woolworths have branches in easy proximity. You’ll get quality meat products from the new butchery located right across the road, Son-of-a-Butcher – get whatever you need for a tasty braai on the top floor of the aparthotel. There you’ll savour both the meal and the delectable views of the Atlantic and the mountain with its fynbos cover.
Night-out
Step out at night and a stroll away you’ll find a wide array of restaurants highlighting the world’s cuisine. Try the delights of authentic Moroccan foods at Andalousse – the lamb tagine is their speciality – or select dishes from the wide range available at the Mojo Market. Fine dining is taken to new heights at La Mouette, and among the best steaks in town can be found at NV-80. For burgers, try Craft Burger Bar, while there are great traditional Italian dishes on offer at Goloso.
Kosher and Halal visitors are well catered for in the area, too. Avron’s Place is the nearest Kosher restaurant, while there are at least two Halal stalls in Mojo Market and Andalousse Authentic Moroccan cuisine is also Halal. Plus a wide range of certified Kosher and Halal items are available from Checkers and Spar.
Exercise
You can still work on your beach-ready body, with The Point shopping centre housing a gym and a pilates studio. Both conventional bicycles and electric bicycles are available for rent on the nearby Beach Road.
Shop
From decor stores to kitchen gadgets and clothing boutiques, this area of Sea Point is a paradise for shoppers. Take a stroll through Mojo Market and you’re bound to end up with custom-made handbags, colourful cushions, and some unique clothing items, while the many stores that dot Regent Road are the place to find whatever you may be looking for.
The Regent Road area of Sea Point is Cape Town’s newest place to be. Stay over in the area for your holiday, and you’ll have a truly memorable time.
