Siggi’s German restaurant hope to carry forward the tradition of great hospitality and excellent food which became an institution over the years at Siggi Schaedle’s country hotel in the Natal Midlands. The restaurant attracts guests from throughout Southern Africa and Europe.
One of the founders, Chris Schaedle, spent a lifetime with his parents in the Hotel and Restaurant trade and has taken great pride in continuing with his families legacy. “We are extremely proud of our restaurant and over the months have seen our loyal customer base grow, with repeat travellers from all parts of South Africa and the world, arriving to sample ‘a little taste of Germany.”
The menu boasts traditional German meals with starters such as Herring “Hausfruen art” (pickled Herring, topped with yoghurt and apple dressing) and mains such as Holstein Schnitzel (crumbed pork schnitzel topped with a fried egg, spicy tomato and cheese, served with chips and vegetables), and Eisbein (grilled pork shank, served with sauerkraut and sauté potatoes).
Desserts at Siggi’s are not to be missed and include Ofen Fricher apfelstruedel, a traditional applestrüdel and fresh cream and Eisbecher “Ala Salt Rock”, a delicious mixture of nuts and vanilla ice cream, laced with caramel sauce and topped with fresh cream.
