Last week Mzansi’s own George Coetzee returned to Mauritius with a hope of defending the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. But sadly, the South Korean Jeunghun Wang claimed the 216 challenge.
Coetzee won the title last year in dramatic fashion, making birdie at the second extra hole to claim the title from Thorbjorn Olesen. Unfortunately this year wasn’t his.
The 20-year old Wang’s form keeps on rising and eight days ago, he won his maiden title at the Trophée Hassan II in Morocco.
In the final group, Wang played together with the Bangladeshi Siddikur Rahman who
birdied the fifth and sixth to increase his lead but Wang was a better competitor in the ninth and 13th round.
The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open is a men’s professional golf tournament, co-sanctioned by Asian Tour, European Tour and Sunshine Tour. It started in 2015 in Bel-Ombre, Mauritius, at Heritage Golf Club.
The tournament is not to be confused for the Mauritius Open which is currently not functioning.
