Kaya FM will be celebrating this year’s Mothers’ Day at the Joburg Zoo on 08 May with performances by Zonke Dikana and Mama Sibongile Khumalo.
The celebration will be sponsored by SPAR and promises soulful sounds, jazzy melodies as well as entertainment by the Johannesburg Chamber Orchestra.
Known for her popular albums including Live at the Market Theatre, Immortal Secrets and Ancient Evenings, Sibongile Khumalo was honoured with an award of a Doctor of Music honoris causa by Rhodes University in Grahamstown.
She is the first person to sing the title role of Princess Magogo in the first African opera Princess Magogo ka Dinuzulu.
Rising to fame on the back of her multi award-winning and double platinum selling album Ina Ethe, Zonke Dikana has written and produced music for as well as collaborated with a number of well known artists including T.K., Thebe, Mafikizolo and Franck Roger.
Her father, Vuyisile Dikana, was the drummer for Black Slave and the Flamingo and her late stepmother, Anneline Malebo, sang for the famous Joy outfit of Paradise Road fame.
