Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat has partners with Bouchard Finlayson for the Food and Wine Weekend taking place from 26 to 28 June 2015 at Cederberg, Cape Town.
This authentic gourmet experience in the wilderness celebrates the marriage of fine cuisine and superb wines to take guests on an epicurean journey of note at the award-winning Relais and Châteaux lodge.
The weekend’s activities include a special wine tasting and presentation by Bouchard Finlayson Winemaker Peter Finlayson and an inspired food and wine pairing dinner prepared by Executive Chef Floris Smith.
Daily High Tea, nature drives and rock art excursions are also included in the programme. The 2-night event costs from R2270 per person sharing per night and includes all meals, wines and lodge activities.
Peter Finlayson is well known for his groundwork as South Africa’s ‘Pinot Pioneer’ and is credited with setting up the boutique, family run Bouchard Finlayson Vineyard and Winery in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley where he was instrumental in putting the Walker Bay area on the South African wine map.
Today, 22 hectares (54 acres) of the estate are under vine with 50% devoted to Pinot Noir, the varietal which Peter is most acclaimed for. In addition Bouchard Finlayson is also dedicated to the quality production of Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc, but it is the flagship Galpin Peak Pinot noir in particular that has become renowned on a global scale, winning international awards along the way.
Executive Chef Floris Smith is the creative maestro who has placed Bushmans Kloof firmly on the map as the home of authentic Cape cuisine in the Cederberg.
His creative menus feature dishes that capture the essence of the Cape Floral Kingdom, brimming with delicious natural flavours. He is well known for his penchant for using only the freshest, finest quality ingredients, picked from Bushmans Kloof’s own organic garden, to craft his tasty culinary creations.
Diners can look forward to an extravagant six-course food and wine pairing dinner served in one of the lodge’s stunning venues on Saturday 28 June.
This gourmet feast is always a highlight of the weekend, with the chef pulling out all the stops to perfectly complement each dish with a selected Bouchard Finlayson vintage.
Guests will be able to taste Bouchard Finlayson’s white wine releases from 2014, a year which, according to Peter Finlayson, was ‘a cracker of a vintage for white wine’.
The releases include two Chardonnays – the 2014 Sans Barrique and the 2014 Crocodile’s Lair / ‘Kaaimansgat’, as well as the unique Riesling driven, 2014 Blanc de Mer blend.
Finlayson will also introduce wine fans to the 2013 vintage of Bouchard Finlayson’s renowned Hannibal blend, as well as its 2012 Galpin Peak Pinot Noir and the lauded 2010 Tête de Cuvée Galpin Peak Pinot Noir – considered to be the winery’s best Pinot Noir vintage since 2005 and 2007.
