George Malelu and Quiteria Kekana have produced their first local public fashion showcase at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town 2017. This is a story echoing two young fashion designers with many challenges along the way. Instead of giving up, the duo persevered and finally made their well-deserved mark in the fashion industry.
“The collection is inspired by the movie ‘THE BLACK SWAN’. We had to dig deep as talented designers, in our daily lives with its challenges of wanting acceptance within our very own fashion industry where passion, love, lust goes hand in hand,” explained Malelu and Kekana.
“Leaving us constantly disappointed and confused yet knowing how much talent we have and our desire to succeed. The collection touches on the dark emotions we go through on a daily basis in an industry fueled with love and hate. As a duo the movie has inspired us to never quit and let fear re-direct the fear of the unknown.”
“Like Nina in the movie there can be distractions, confusion and in-balance, but we remain focused on our journey to achieving the impossible.”
During their rehearsal for the show, Quiteria & George were thrilled to meet Jenke Ahmed Tailly who was appointed by AFI to be the Head Stylist for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town. Jenke is well known as Beyonce’s Fashion Creative Director for over three years and has also worked with Hollywood stars such as Jay Z, Kim Kardashian, Solange, Ciara, Kanye West and many more.
Not only was Jenke impressed with this particular collection by Quiteria & George, he mentored them and directed their showcase. Quiteria & George aims to take their brand to other international fashion platforms as they did in 2016 at the French European Indian Fashion Week held in Paris where they showcased at the Eiffel Tower and definitely looks forward to working with Jenke in their near future endeavors in Paris specifically.
The Black Swan by Quiteria & George, is a 16 piece couture collection.
