Oscar Bonginkosi Mdlongwa, AKA Oskido, has responded to the Sowetan’s report that claims that Kalawa Jazmee Records’ majority stake has been sold to Universal Music.
According to the report, Kalawa’s 51% stake has been sold for R28 million and the records company will change its name to Tacwise.
“The report is not true and it is business as usual at Kalawa,” said Oskido. “Our contract with Universal has expired, as it does every 5 years, and we are re-negotiating the deal,” he said.
Kalawa is known for producing popular hits and has produced groups such as Trompies, Bongo Maffin, Mafikizolo and Boom Shaka.
It is also known as a major contributor to the development of the Kwaito and local hip hop genres in Mzansi. Not long ago Oskido and Greg Maloka helped Cassper Nyovest to close a lucrative deal with a telecoms operator, MTN.
