The ‘Mother City’ round of Engen Cycle in the City attracted cyclists and sports fanatics in a series of criterium races on a 1.5km circuit through the streets of Green Point last Saturday.
Cape Town Stadium, Signal Hill, Table Mountain and the cobalt waters of the Atlantic Ocean did not disappoint as they provided a magnificent backdrop for the cycle.
Present on the day were some of the most celebrated names in local cycling, which led to some scintillating racing on the street circuit.

The Street King’s category for elite men saw Morne van Niekerk claim honours. He was joined on the podium by Reynard Butler and Ryan Gibbons who claimed second and third place respectively.
The leading lady of the day was Kim Le Court who powered her way to first place in the Street Queen’s category.
In addition to the excitement of the criterium racing, the thousands of spectators who attended Engen Cycle in the City were treated to a feast of entertainment.
As the shadows grew longer and the sun began sinking into the nearby Atlantic Ocean, local music sensations Jimmy Nevis and Mi Casa closed the day’s proceedings in their own inimitable styles.
