Last weekend we reviewed the newly opened restaurant, The Greens Grill House situated at the only golf estate in the Southern suburbs of Johannesburg – Eye of Africa Golf Estate. We were very impressed by the restaurant, the food and the environment.
The restaurant is immaculately laid and diners can enjoy their meals while watching golfers do what they do best on the pitch.
We had a three-course meal and can confirm that the restaurant offers the best cuisine not only in the South but in Johannesburg. The food was on point, service was excellent and we didn’t wait long between meals.
We started our review with Salmon Rose Bruschetta and Salt & Chilli Calamari. The Salmon was imported from Scotland and Calamari from Argentina. The starter was delightful and presentation was mouth-watering.
Other starter selections include Halloumi Cheese, Feta & Olive Crumbs and Sweet Soy & Ginger Bacon Kebabs.
The Main course was to die for – it was succulent and nicely garnished. The 600g Rib Eye on the Bone and 200g Avo & Feta Fillet with extra baked potato and vegetables were out of this world – thanks to the waiter by the name of Givemore who helped us to decide on our dishes.
The restaurant also offer Fillet, Boston Fillet, Dijon Fillet Suzette, Rump, Flame Grilled & Oven Roasted Pork Chops, Rosemary & Thyme Lamb Chops, Flame Grilled Whole Chicken – Spatchcock, Chicken Schnitzel & Cheese Sauce, Grilled Chicken Breasts & Greek Salad and Grilled Falkland Calamari for main courses. Customers can top their meals with Chips, Crumbed Mushrooms, Onion Rings or Rosemary Potato Wedges.
The new Executive Chef has a tough job ahead as customers will expect the same standard – and more – as provided by Chef Maxwell. It will be very interesting to see what the new Chef will put on the menu.
The Greens Grill House makes the best dessert in the South and serves various assortment including Strawberry Cheesecake, Crème Brule, Ice Cream & Bar One Sauce and Malva Pudding.
We had Chocolate Mousse Duo and Chocolate & Hazzlenut Tart which were deliciously prepared.
The friendly head of operations, Peter Karam, hosted us and he now-and-then came to chat to us, making sure that we get the best service which we got. Karam is a very experienced restaurateur with 30 years of experience under his belt.
Commenting on his staff members, he said that his employees work very hard to ensure that diners get the best from his kitchen.
“Most chefs operate from the office and issue instructions via email. We are fortunate to have attracted the calibre of our staff including Chef Maxwell. He is really showing great leadership qualities in the kitchen,” Karam said.
The Greens Grill House also cater for private and corporate functions.
Eye of Africa has over 200 houses and is projected to have around 3000 residential houses once the development is complete. Its golf course was ranked 40th in the Gold Digest 2014 Golf Rankings.
