eNCA has announced that the Late Night News (LNN) with Loyiso Gola will no longer play on both e.tv and eNCA on DStv channel 403. eNCA wanted to broadcast the show in a different format but couldn’t reach an agreement with LNN production company, Di Prente.
According to Patrick Conroy, managing director of eNCA, the broadcaster wanted LNN production company to explore the option of short-format inserts on a more regular basis rather than a weekly show but the LNN producers stick to their guns.
“We see great value in the current format and wish to continue to produce a 24-minute satirical news show indefinitely. We are not interested in producing a shorter format show,” said LNN production company.
eNCA said it hoped the business relationship would continue. Both parties had spent a great deal of time on funding and syndication options for the next season, but regrettably these did not work out.
Late Night News has twice been nominated for an International Emmy Award and was the first satirical news show in South Africa to achieve a mass following. The show also aired on e.tv.
