Mzansi Life chats to Charmagne Mavudzi (26), founder of 360 Mobile Salon about being an entrepreneur in these challenging times of high unemployment in Mzansi.
What inspired you to start your business?
I have been in the beauty industry and previously owned a salon and hair company. I am currently studying my MBA in Entrepreneurship and I saw a need for woman who are wives and mothers and don’t have time to go to the salon frequently. I then worked on the mobile salon concept as part of my entrepreneurship module project.
How does the business model work?
360 Mobile Salon is an innovative platform that caters to all hair, beauty and grooming needs. We offer convenient full house salon services in the comfort of our clients’ homes or office through our quick and easy booking platforms. Our services can be delivered anywhere at any time. We offer tailor made packages for large groups, events, functions or special occasions, through 360 Pop Up.
How do you market your business?
We rely a lot on social media and online digital advertising. But most of all in this industry it’s all about word of mouth. Quality of service gets people talking about you and that converts into customers
How do keep your business relevant to the needs of your clients?
It’s about constantly being able to adapt and evolve to customer needs. Understanding your customers and the environment you operate in and moulding the business accordingly.
Share with us some of your successes?
Offering a service that is unique and a fusing beauty and technology to create a platform that is convenient and being able to connect customers to service providers and something that empowers independent beauticians by increasing their productivity through our customer base.
What challenges do you come across and how do you overcome them?
The biggest challenge is staying motivated. Entrepreneurship is not an easy journey and not for the faint hearted. It comes with its challenges but one has to continuously keep their eyes on the goal. The vision is what will keep you motivated. Keep learning and feeding the mind
How many people to you employ?
Currently 360 mobile salon works with 12 independent service providers in the beauty industry.
What are your future plans?
To branch out into other provinces and make 360 Mobile Salon available across South Africa

- Understand your product or service, question every assumption and always ensure you are adding value.
- Mobilise yourself with people who will support you as you cannot be a jack of all trades but a master of none and run a successful business.
