I recently reviewed the Toyota Hilux Legend 45 that first came off the assembly lines way back in 1969 and I can confirm that it is a true South African icon.
What I like about the Hilux Legend 45 is that it is reliable on and off-road, it feels safe, it is tough and should you decide to trade it in, you’ll definitely get excellent and unbeatable resale value.
Its name is derived from the words “High” and “Luxury” – something it’s lived up to till this day. The Toyota Hilux Legend 45’s interior looks and feels like a luxury passenger vehicle.
The Toyota Hilux Legend 45 comes with rear diff locks, 17-inch wheels finished in anthracite, black leather upholstery, Legend 45 badging, stainless steel nudge bar and rear bumper, towbar, new headlamp and fog lamp design, smoked tail-lamps, matt black side steps, gear lever knob and steering wheel with silver stitching, reverse camera, a DVD touch screen, Bluetooth audio streaming and colour coded door handles.
No one can dispute the fact that Toyota speciality has always been bakkies – since 1969. Over 13 million Toyota Hilux pick-ups engines were produced within 46 years, making Toyota one of the indisputable leaders that offer exceptional performance, durability and efficiency. This is one of the proof points why Toyota Hilux is still one of the few best.
Toyota Hilux Legend 45 features a superbly laid out dashboard with logically and intuitively positioned controls. These controls are easy to reach and operate.
The interior looks classy and features full black interior. Black leather with silver stitching on the seats, door panels, reverse camera, steering wheel, shift lever boot, six airbags, Bluetooth technology, CD/radio/MP3 player with USB and auxiliary port are some of the features.
Toyota Hilux Legend 45 features headlamp and front fog lamp design with black-out detail, smoked tail light design, stainless steel front nudge bar, stainless steel rear step bumper, towbar and matt black side steps and 17” alloy wheels.
The Hilux Legend 45 is available in a number of colours including Glacier White, Chromium Silver, Chilli Red, Pacific Blue Metallic, Graphite Grey, Attitude Black, Silky Gold and Dark Steel Mica.

What we like about the car:
- High driving position
- Great off-road experience
- Aggressive looks
- Luxury finishes
- Leather seats
- It feels safe
- It is solidly built
- Advanced audio system and sound quality
What we don’t like about the car:
- It is not fuel efficient especially when driving in the city. But once you get on the road (highway) the consumption is reasonable.
What more can I say? Toyota is a specialist – and has always been – when it comes to bakkies. Rich history and exceptional experience speak for themselves. The Toyota Hilux Legend 45 brings all elements of a modern bakkie and luxury passenger vehicle together.
