A superfast start by Hennie Groenewald, Sasolracing driver, saw him power to victory in a time of 16:48.69 at the Sasol Race Day hosted at Zwartkops Raceway last weekend.
Not too far behind him, second Sasolracing driver, Gennaro Bonafede placed third in a time of 16:53.76 – securing Sasol two places on the winner’s podium in the feature race.
“We are exceptionally proud of the team for clinching title positions at our home race in Zwartkops,” said Zolile Ntukwana, Senior Manager, Public Affairs Southern Africa Energy at Sasol.
“As a fuel producer, we have continuously invested in the development of fuels and lubricants for the motor racing industry. This victory affirms our efforts.”
The Sasol Race Day is the sixth round of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship for 2014.
The victory at Zwartkops is Groenewald’s second victory of the series. “I’m very pleased with my performance, and proud to have represented my sponsor well on our home ground,” Groenewald.
“I’m also proud of my team mate, Gennaro, he put great pressure on our competitors to take third place – great day on the track for us all round.”
Motoring enthusiasts were treated to a day of fast-paced thrilling action with close proximity to the raceway, watching their favourite teams power past at incredible speeds.
“We went into the Sasol race day having prepared extensively and feeling optimistic for good results. Our strategy of using new tyres for Hennie’s car helped boost his performance for the race, which proved useful in the end,” said Vic Maharaj Sasolracing Team Manager.
Bonafede and Groenewald placed third and fourth overall respectively in the Class A category.
The Bridgestone Production Car Championship continues with round seven and eight at Killarney and Kyalami on 27 September and 1 November 2014, where Groenewald and Bonafede will aim to improve or maintain competitiveness on the track.
