South Africa – Following a Champaign Breakfast for VIP guests at the Food Network Cooks Delicious stand at this year’s DStv Delicious Festival that took place last saturday, festival goers were invited to enjoy a thrilling “mystery basket” cook-off between two teams judged by Jenny Morris and Siba Mtongana.
The cook-off was hosted by presenter of the first ‘Chopped South Africa’, entrepreneur and actor Denvor Phokaners. In addition to the cook-off, Jenny and Siba presented cooking demonstrations at the Food Network Cooks Delicious stand during the course of the day, offering visitors the exclusive chance to sample their mouthwatering creations.
Food Network also used the opportunity to launch their official Website and Facebook page for Food Network South Africa where local foodies can now source recipes from their favourite shows on Food Network as well as watch videos demonstrating recipe prep and cooking techniques. Siba Mtongana’s popular first series on Food Network, Siba’s Table is presently still airing on the Food Network Channel 175 with daily repeats throughout the week. Scripps Networks International, a leading global developer and broadcaster of lifestyle programming, recently announced that the USA’s Cooking Channel will be airing Siba’s Table, a Scripps Networks International original commission.
The series is Scripps Networks International’s first talent commission outside of the United States and Siba will be one of the first South African celebrity chefs to host a series on a USA TV network. Launched on 5 April 2014, the 10×30 programme airs weekly at 10:30am on the Cooking Channel, which reaches an audience in the USA of more than 60 million homes.
The backdrop to the series is Cape Town, where the series was filmed, and is home to South Africa’s most vibrant food scene. In Siba’s Table, Siba creates and serves an irresistible range of dishes for friends and family.
Each episode recreates a chapter of her Cape Town life, as she draws on influences from both her childhood and her experience as a food editor. The series also feature vibrant local artisan producers and is showcasing the local, cutting edge restaurant scene.
