South Africa –Cartrack has launched today the new and improved Logbook that complies with SARS requirements, making child’s play of monitoring and recording both business and personal travel.
All that is required in addition to motorists’ Cartrack GPS/GSM tracking unit is a remote device which they can keep with their car keys or wallet.
“The Cartrack logbook will help motorists to keep tabs on their business trips by utilising our enhanced GPS system capabilities to accurately record all their trips,” said John Edmeston, CEO of Cartrack, a market-leading vehicle tracking and recovery, fleet management and telematics service provider.
All trips are automatically defaulted to record as a business trip. If the user wishes to record a trip as private use of the vehicle, a simple push of the green button on the remote will set the trip to private. The button should be pushed prior to the ignition being turned on, but may also be activated during the trip.
Alternatively, the type of trip that was made can always be manually corrected by accessing your personal account via the web. Logbook reports can be extracted from Cartrack’s online portal in the format that is required by the South African Revenue Services (SARS) and can be submitted with the client’s tax return.
The tracking unit is wired into the ignition of the vehicle which informs the system when the vehicle’s ignition is on and tracks the vehicle’s exact route and kilometres travelled. As an added value function, the remote is then wirelessly synchronised with the client’s tracking unit, which effectively turns the remote into a tool that can significantly simplify the administration process of distinguishing between business and personal travelling for tax purposes.
The logbook, together with the tracking unit provides users with:
- Alerts on geo-fences, speeding, harsh braking/acceleration/turning and excessive idling
- Accurate real time GPS positions and trip replays plotted on street-level maps
- Odometer reports
- The ability to create and manage user defined geo-fences
- Management reports; and many more features including the business travel report for SARS
